Coming Along

The siding installer dudes have started to fit on siding (click on thumb). Weather has been crappy, out of 9 possible work days, they have only worked 4 of them. This project should have been done by now, somewhat frustrating.

You can see the weather instruments next to the chimney in that picture. I put the rain gauge outside. So you can now see the rainfall rate at the Zoyx Compound. Assuming, of course, that it is raining.

High temperature of only 29 degrees to day. That would be 23 degrees below normal. The high for today would be equivalent to the average high for mid-February. No dramatic warm up expected either. I have been using the treadmill for jogging since the cool down. The record high of 81 on March 26 was 35 degrees above normal for that day.

The Rich Are More Oblivious Than You and Me

Power makes you “disinhibited”, or a moron, depending on how you look at it. So says research and this opinion article. A snippet:

Researchers led by the psychologist Dacher Keltner took groups of three ordinary volunteers and randomly put one of them in charge. Each trio had a half-hour to work through a boring social survey. Then a researcher came in and left a plateful of precisely five cookies. Care to guess which volunteer typically grabbed an extra cookie? The volunteer who had randomly been assigned the power role was also more likely to eat it with his mouth open, spew crumbs on partners and get cookie detritus on his face and on the table.

The latest NIN album is streaming live on their site. The album has yet to be released, and it is available at fairly high quality for your listening pleasure for free. I am listening to it right now. So far, so good. I’m thinkin’ I’ll be purchasing a copy.

Chilly out. High only hitting around 30, with lows dipping into the teens. This coupled with the stiff northwest breeze, made me bring out the treadmill and jog inside. I had put the treadmill away. A bit premature. Looks like we will stay chilly through the weekend, although the winds should relax.

I rented and watched the movie Idiocracy. Dumb movie, but I am going to recommend it. One of the rare circumstances that a really stupid movie makes poignant social commentary. Although, to be honest, most of the social commentary is in the movie’s intro (brought to you by youtube).

I just did a 2 mile run at a 7:46/mile pace. Probably the fastest 2 mile run in years. That is the good news. The bad news is that I haven’t lost any weight since February. Hopefully with spring here, I can get out of the house more. The increased exercise with the new thyroid meds, maybe some pounds will start falling off again.

Probably will get some measurable snow tomorrow. Forecast is in the 2 to 4 inch range. Locations north of here expected to get more. Yep, it’s April. Yep, it was in the 80s a week ago. The solace is that it will be gone within a day or two.

OMG Ponies

Hope you all had a wonderful first day of the month of April!

One April Fool’s joke not on Wikipedia yet is the one by Real Climate. Today’s article is about New Zealand sheep. The hypothesis being, the reduced population of sheep in New Zealand, reduces the global albedo, meaning more solar radiation absorbed by the earth, resulting in yet another feedback mechanism toward global warming. Think about it.

YouTube link of the day. I discovered this funny Dr. Who episode (part 1 | Part 2) that dates back to 1999. This was very silly. Many British stars make fools of themselves in this episode. It has Rowan Atkinson as Dr. Who. Rowan would of been a kick-kiester Dr. Who.
